Job Summary
Curro is seeking to appoint a high school senior phase teacher at Curro Hermanus in Hermanus. The role involves teaching and coordinating a range of subjects as per the Curro and IEB curricula for the senior phase. The teacher is responsible for the active teaching, knowledge transfer, skills development and growth of positive attitudes among learners through integrated and focused teaching approaches.
Job Description
  • Perform teaching duties across Grade 8 and 9 Natural Sciences (Senior Phase), as well as potential FET Physical Sciences classes, including lesson planning, practical laboratory work, and tracking academic growth.
  • Set up, implement, monitor, and adjust term plans to accommodate exams, practical assessments, and cycle tests.
  • Plan and manage the classroom environment, including assessment schedules, disciplinary standards, active engagement strategies, and proactive parent-teacher communication.
  • Create, moderate, and mark formal and continuous assessments, practical experiments, and activities aligned with IEB standards.
  • Support, plan, and manage school extramural activities, sports, and educational outings.
  • Provide targeted extra lessons and academic support to assist learners in mastering core concepts.
Key Skills / Requirements
  • Valid, up-to-date SACE registration.
  • Relevant tertiary degree and professional teaching qualification
  • Language of instruction is English & Afrikaans.
  • Willingness and enthusiasm to contribute to the broader life of the school, including co-curricular commitments, sports, and weekend activities.
  • Familiarity with the IEB curriculum framework is preferred.
  • Strong subject knowledge in Senior Phase Natural Sciences and FET Physical Sciences.
  • Proven ability to guide Grades 8–9 learners through foundational scientific concepts and practical laboratory skills.
  • Proficiency in modern educational technology and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and administrative skills.
  • Clear criminal record.
